Pre-Professional When students begin to seriously consider a career in dance, theatre, voice, or any combination, they will rely on teachers they trust — ones who are preparing them for what is ahead. Physical gifts and natural talent are important, but determination and artistry are also critical factors in professional success.
Columbia Ballet School offers an unparalleled faculty headed by Anita Ashley, and including Cindy Flach, Terrance Henderson, Ann Kent, McCree O’Kelley and Katie Crossland for dance and acting; as well as Ruth Ann Ingham for voice. Among them, they have nearly a century of experience.
In addition to teaching, the CBS faculty remains active in the Midlands arts communities as choreographers, directors, and performers. They have taught in some of the finest arts schools in the United States, and their students are performing on Broadway, and with renowned companies and productions across the United States. Teachers specialize in ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, musical theatre, voice, and many combinations of those areas of study.
Our beautiful new state-of-the-art studios are conducive to serious study. We provide a safe environment where the teachers nurture the love of the arts and encourage every student to work to his or her highest potential. Our classes are the most important part of our program, but we also provide performance opportunities through limited community service performances, company performances and competitions, and at the end of the year through our annual recital.
All pre-professional students are encouraged to participate the dance company associated with Columbia Ballet School, Visions Dance Company. This year, one of our ensemble pieces, Danse Neopolitan, was chosen to compete in the finals of the Youth America Grand Prix.
