| About our program Students can begin pre-ballet when they are as young as three and continue dancing with us into adulthood. Columbia Ballet School students are taught using the Vaganova syllabus. Young students are carefully observed by the experienced CBS dance instructors. When a young student shows potential either through natural aptitude or strength of attitude, he or she is encouraged to take part in the pre-professional program. This invitation comes at varying ages. As students become more experienced with ballet, they are placed in classes, based upon ability, and their serious attitude about dance instruction. Class requirements increase with each dance level. Both technique and artistry are stressed. Yearly recital pieces, performed by each class, are intended to challenge the student and to entertain the audience. Many CBS students choose to pursue ballet purely for the joy. They take part in and receive the same training and instructor interest as all CBS students. Our "dance again" class gives former ballet dancers a chance to renew their interest. CBS students have been chosen as regional and national finalists in the Youth America Grand Prix, one of the world's premiere ballet competitions. Also, older students are encouraged to attend summer intensive programs. This year, our studio has 10 students taking part in summer intensives, including one who has a scholarship to the Bolshoi Academy. |
