Frequently Asked Questions
How do you choose my child's class?
Your child is placed based upon a combination of age and experience.
What if my child does not want to take ballet?
We believe ballet is the basis for dance, and all other dance forms are improved if the student
takes ballet. However, we offer an "open" track that does not require ballet; neither does voice
or acting.
Can I watch my child's class?
You may watch, but we ask that you not distract your child. Please keep in mind that some
students are very distracted by your presence, and we ask that you exercise your judgment so
that your child can get the most from classes.
When is tuition due?
The studio sends an email of your monthly invoice, as long as we have a valid email address.
We do not mail invoices. Your tuition is due on the 1st of every month. A $25 late fee is added
on the 10th. We do not accept credit cards or debit cards.
Why do I pay full tuition in December?
Each class meets 36 times during the year. Some months have five classes, while others have
three. If a teacher is absent, a make-up class will be scheduled.
What if I have to miss a class?
If you miss a class, you can make it up with any comparable class. No refunds are given for
missed classes.
Can I quit after I start?
Students must give written notice at least two weeks in advance. Otherwise, you will be billed for
a full month.
Why do you have an end-of-year concert?
Students who dance, act, and sing are involved in a performing art, and the end-of-year concert
is the culmination of a year's work between the student and teacher. We hope families plan for
this event. If you know you cannot participate, we hope you will let us know as soon as possible.
When is the recital?
This year, it is scheduled for the weekend of May 30-31, which is the weekend after Memorial
Day. We do not know whether we can secure that date and probably will not know until January.
We chose this target date in order to try not to interfere with Memorial Day plans, but also not to
interfere with Mothers Day, proms, and other end-of-year commitments.
Why do we have to pay recital fees?
You are charged two fees in connection with recital.
One is a costume deposit of $50 per class. This fee is due by October 1. We order costumes in
December and January, and you are billed for any difference between the deposit and the cost
of the costume.
Recital fees are used to rent a facility and pay all associated costs. This year, we have changed
our policy on fees. You can either pay the full fee at registration, or you can divide the fees over
the first four months of the term. If you notify us before Feb. 1, 2009, that you cannot take part in
recital, we will refund your fee. No refunds will be given after that date.
What is the company, Visions?
Dancers six years and older are welcome to take part in our company, Visions. Dancers must
audition. Company class is held each Saturday for older students. Choreographers will work
with individual dancers to develop solos and group pieces. These pieces are entered in various
competitions. There will be additional fees for Visions dancers, including a company fee,
choreography fees, costumes, and travel.
What is the Youth America Grand Prix?
The YAGP is a ballet competition. The regional competitions will be held in Spartanburg, SC.
Dancers are not required to be members of Visions to participate, but many of the same fees
will apply.
